"But that's what makes the world go round." - The Stylistics, People Make the World Go Round (Another Late Night)
Butters indeed. There were many conversations this weekend, while we vacationed our asses off in Port Hueneme and one centered briefly on which one food could you eat for the rest of your days, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We're talking one dish...the same dish over and over and over again.
This got me thinking about other "one things"...if I had to listen to one album over and over again for the rest of my days what would it be?
Another Late Night mixed by Zero 7, of course. Check Trent for the rules.
This is The Remix:
1. Are you male or female?
Pra MANha - Da Lata
Oh..by the way, my one food? It's a battle between the taco supreme with no tomato from taco bell or the super nachos with chicken from Rigo's Taco. Because I love the mexican food, baby! Indeed.
Let's just establish that some vacation time was very necessary and this weekend provided it. My mind needed to remove some clutter and wind up again, look at the world in a new way and tingle. The first tingle? The rumblings of a short story called Pimp Juice. The inspiration? A giant of a man, skin dark and full of color like the rich hue of thick, coagulating blood, wearing a white tank top and leaning on a red cadillac outside of Uncle Herb's Restaurant and two young men discussing the merits of Bishop Don 'Magic' Juan over a short stack.2. Describe yourself: Ghost Ship in a Storm - Jim O'Rourke
The Trues apologized for once again taking me to the land of no black people but they were mistaken. In the early part of Saturday, I'd seen more brown skinned folks of many different backgrounds than I'd seen most of the week (although this week included the very special cracka free Wednesday...except, of course, for watching The Matrix Reloaded with my favorite cracka). Not that I needed much for me to connect things in my life to The Matrix this weekend but I took note of the multiculti-ness (or miscegenation if you've been reading a little Danzy Senna over the weekend) and how it reminded me of Zion. Hueneme is full of surprises. One of the most pleasant was the smell of celery wafting through the car as Mr. C and I went grocery shopping. Celery and Strawberries as the cash crops of a community? Now, those are smells I could live around.3. How do some people feel about you? You Can't Turn Me Away - Sylvia Striplin
It's really difficult to find good reviews or information about an author and her book when you don't want to know about future plot points. I'm about a hundred pages in and we're still creating the world that these characters live in. I don't want to know about the unexpected moment right around the corner. That said, check out what my favorite op-ed columnist had to say. If I had brought the book with me, I would drop a couple lines on you right here and show you the difference between typing and writing. (this space is likely to be edited later)4. How do you feel about yourself? Happiness - Shawn Lee
We're not going to talk about the character on Criminal Intent last night whose shortcomings hit a little too close to home. We will talk about the renewed sense of purpose and focus that this marathon business has given me. We will note that I feel good. I feel real good. We will also note that Bad Company is bad. Real bad. And that Spirited Away is a spectacular piece of filmmaking. And that so choice, whack, indeed and babillion continue to be my favorite words.5. Describe your girlfriend/boyfriend/interest: Sunrays - Yesterday's New Quintet
I almost just wrote--This Space Intentionally Left Blank-- but, you know what, it's not blank. My heart is full up. Full up with who I think is beautiful, what I think is beautiful, the beauty of the world, and the beauty in my mind. And I'm feeling something coming on and I like where it's going. Glinting through the spaces left by rustled blinds, it's daring me to bathe in it's light. Why not take that dare? Even if I get burnt, I heal quickly.6. Where would you rather be? On a Cool Out - L. Hutson; M. Hawkins
Speaking of babillions. Cool Hand Luke, otherwise known as that grifter Jay-bug, won so many babillions off of us playing blackjack and poker over the weekend that now we have to do it for real in Vegas. I'm thinking August. I'm thinking about past transgressions and I'm thinking about Pink Taco. Yeah, baby. It's time. This is how relaxed I was all weekend. I burped. A lot. In front of people. And wasn't embarrassed. I sang "proud to be an american" and "Let Me Ride." I wondered aloud if people loved me for my pimp juice (and yes, some do). I did the damn thing on a cool out baby.7. Describe what you want to be: Bonnie and Clyde (Herbert's Fred and Ginger Mix) - Serge Gainsbourg
and Connie and Hyde. Something. I just dug being in a house with people I not only love but get along with. Maybe I could do that again. I would like to be rich now, please, so that I can buy the nice pad and my peoples can all come live with me and we can play together in the big sand box outback.8. Describe how you live: 93 til Infinity - Souls of Mischief
Kill all that whack shit. I felt like that this weekend. I felt like that song makes me feel. Like you've done exactly what you wanted to do for those 3 minutes, 3 hours, 3 days. Like you'd be okay with dying at the end of that time because you were happy with whatever you'd just accomplished. That's how I felt all weekend. It was my time and my time alone and I spent exactly the way I wanted to. This is how we chill from 93 til...9. Describe how you love: Holding You, Loving You - Don Blackman
Well, maybe there was one other thing I would have liked to have done this weekend.10. Share a few words of wisdom: Truth and Rights will help you Real Eyes that all that Jealousy is unnecessary when you Witness (1 hope) that People Make the World Go Round.
Oh..by the way, my one food? It's a battle between the taco supreme with no tomato from taco bell or the super nachos with chicken from Rigo's Taco. Because I love the mexican food, baby! Indeed.
