"Talk about beautiful things a little bit" - Bahamadia, Beautiful Things (BB Queen)
If I cut my right leg off at the knee would that be a bad thing?
Running on Sunday was not the best decision I made this 4th of July weekend. The Transporter and I didn't like the pace group so we ran on our own. I was still sick and had a very bad early part of the run, her heels were hurting and we didn't think we could finish. At the hour mark we ate some power bar, though, and about 15 minutes later we were energized and pumped to finish. We were 4 minutes early on our 7 mile run but I blame the coach for not outlining the course and for not having us do the hill back up to Santa Monica High School. We've learned to love that hill, kids. It gives a final sense of accomplishment after a long run. We did it, though. 7 miles. Next week it's eight which means I will be running for nearly 2 hours. Wowsers. I hope it's not hot.
Outside of the best 2 hours of my week every week, Sunday was just a poor day. It was sweltering in the valley. I had to work after my run and I accomplished very little in Legend of Zelda. My legs also decided to hate me for the rest of the day. I live on the second floor of a building with no elevator. Stairs.
Ouch.
I did finish one of my two pieces due for Vibe, though, and I'm almost happy with it so I guess that's good.
What else is good is living in the Marina in a 4 level loft apartment with a full movie screen and surround sound to watch hyperviolent action movies on. The Transporter and Mr. Bad Knees have a lovely home with pretty cool friends who are grown-ups but still have a good time and don't frighten me. The HSW and I approved of their 4th of July party. I also would very much like to steal their apartment from them.
They are just another good part of doing the marathon training...new friends for me.
The best thing about road tripping for me is music. I tend to dig in the crates and pull out old CDs to listen to. For my 5 hours of drive time to and from San Diego on Saturday, I went with the letter "B" and pulled out some old and new from Black Eyed Peas, some Brand New Heavies, Some Mary J. Blige and some Bahamadia. Where is the Love and Latin Girls might be my favorite tracks of the weekend but I always forget how wonderful and thus horribly short BB Queen is. Bahamadia deserves to blow up. That Jay Dee production with her ridiculous rhyme style and flow is just all kinds of amazing. Also amazing? How much fun you can have at a toddler's birthday party when you just give in and start playing every video game without caring about what a tool you look like. We played a snow ski game most of the afternoon, never being able to win the easiest track (or get higher than third place for that matter) and then I tried my hand at a boxing game in which you had to move and punch as if you were really boxing. It was very dance dance revolution and I was sweating at the end. I was a decent boxer though. But I won't be after I cut off my leg. I think the saw blade is ready. Gotta go.
