"Feel like dancin'" - Jose James, Detroit Loveletter
The Saints may have lost this week but New Orleans stays winning. I spent most of this week in the company of several of my friends and The Lady walking the streets of the city that has become a second home in the last couple years. What I will remember about this particular trip, more than the food and the sights and the gorgeous weather and the drinks, is the amazing chosen family I have.
I have known Michelle and J. since the earliest days of this blog and even though we are in the same physical space rarely, it is, much as it is with my actual family, as if time hasn't passed. I had forgotten until I got on the plane and caught up with Twitter, that this was the first time many of this crew were meeting in person. It mattered not. We all quickly got into our rhythms. The rapid fire chatter began. The jokes and laughter (and drinks) flowed. We (well, they) got loud. And as I took stock of those around me, all I felt was warmth and love.
I also felt sun drunk and bloated but that likely had more to do with traveling by foot most of this trip and eating decadently than the company I kept.
- The Best Thing I Saw This Week: easily, it was Melle's face when J. walked into Herbsaint. Face on a hundred thousand trillion.
- The Best Thing I Heard This Week: independent whispery revelations to me from Michelle, B., and Tiffany about how much they all liked each other. (runner up: "who dat black?" and "if La Boca don't act right they goan see El Negro")
- The Best Thing I Read This Week: I didn't read much but I did finish my latest volume of 100 Bullets and am nearly done with L.A. Noir. I also didn't read any feeds beyond my "everyday" list and have no plans to do so. This week is getting a "mark all read".
