"We ain't got nothin' to lose...we rollin'" - Kanye West, Power
Yeah, so that happened. I don't talk very directly about work on this site so let's just note that my new title is Director and I'm responsible for product development of our synergy initiatives. As soon as I figure out exactly what that means maybe I'll share. Here's some other cool stuff that happened: other folks launched a redesign of this and a whole new thing here. My new team (which, in proof of the circular nature of things is, in large part, my old team from just over a year ago) also launched this which features a cameo by The First Lady of these United States.
Oh, and then there was this official bit of news today. The only constant is change, right?
- The Best Thing I Saw This Week: I guess it was The Social Network, although I'm struggling with the portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg. He's presented as more petulant brat rather than a really smart engineer with a really strong point of view on the world (no matter how much I might disagree with it). Other than that, though, the film itself is well done and well written, although Sorkin's disdain for the digital medium comes through. No one in the industry, hell, no one who turns on a computer in this film, is portrayed in a particularly ingratiating way. Special nods to Justin Timberlake and Brenda Song for being incredibly amusing throughout.
- The Best Thing I Heard This Week: Aloe Blacc's Good Things which I've already talked about.
- What I'm Currently Reading: I finished both volumes of All-Star Superman this week and enjoyed them immensely. I feel like I alway do after reading a Grant Morrison/Frank Quitely collaboration: 1) the story would be even better if I actually knew all the references, 2) that Quitely's art is amazing but he draws really weird women. Lois is especially oddly shaped in this one, and 3) I had a great time. In other news, I'm about halfway through L.A. Noir and we're just about halfway through the 20th Century.
- The Thing I Read This Week That Most Resonated:
Playing small doesn't serve me. — Oprah Winfrey
Why? Because we're going big, kids.
